Linda Lime's Lyme Disease Journey

Linda Lime's Lyme Disease Story

In 2005 I kept getting incredibly sick. About every 30 days I would get a sinus infection or pneumonia, or an upper respiratory infection. I was sick for 2 weeks at a time every 30 days and it just kept getting worse. I went to every kind of doctor and was diagnosed with everything from degenerative arthritis to Crohnís to MS. In January of 2010 my symptoms ramped up. I now had arthritis in my legs, iritis in my eyes, horrible constant stomach pain, insomnia and memory loss. The good news is the iritis narrowed the field as to what was actually wrong with me. I was told that I either had an immune disorder such as lupus or ms or lymeís disease. I HAD been bitten by a tick that had embedded itself so deep in me I had to go to the ER to get it removed back in 2005, but Iíd tested negative on the ELISA lyme test twice, and took Doxycyclline for almost three weeks as a precaution, so that couldnít be it. Could it? Turned out it was. I had Lyme Disease for 5 years and didnít even know it. Iíve been on hardcore antibiotics and supplements since September of 2010 when I was lucky enough to take the better (but not foolproof) Western Blot test by IGenexÖ.I came back positive by CDC standards. For a week I was elated. I cried on the subway, I stared at the sky, there was a name for what I had and it was treatable! And then I got way way worse. Everyone says it gets worse before it gets better, but this is crazy. I have a great Lymeís literate doctor. He just put me on rifampin that seems to be helping my neuro symptoms and my seizures have almost all stopped.
